With EDX microprobe, focusing the electron beams on an area or a precise spot of the sample, it's possible to gather the X emission spectra characteristic of the elements forming the material. It's moreover possible to obtain composition maps which allow to measure the distribution of a particular element inside the different phases forming the material.
Of the paramount importance for the execution of different analysis among which: quality controls of some raw materials and our productions, failure analysis support to our clients, surveys for the characterization of new formulations or for R&D in general, LEGOR Plating line R&D activities, after specific sample preparation, to determine the plating deposits thickness and define their precise composition. SEM is also used for the characterization of metallic powders atomised by us; with SEM we verify the morphology of particles, the possible presence of satellites, the average size of the powder in order to cross this data with the ones obtained with the Mastersizer.

Combining the granulometer with a wet dispersion unit we can use different fluids (water, alcol, a mix of these) and optimize the analysis method according to the function of the material under examination. The data obtained are crossed with the ones obtained with SEM to characterize any aspect of our powders.

For LEGOR Plating line, this technology is applied for the quality control of the plating baths we produce and the analysis of baths already installed at our clients', in order to supply an effective service support functional for the bath maintenance.
One of LEGOR LAB routine analysis is the determination of the interval of casting alloys. The working range is between ambient temperature and the effective 1600°C on the sample. Through rotary pump, we can carry out under vacuum measurements or measurements after "washings" of the atmosphere with argon or nitrogen.

In LEGOR LAB we constantly work to implement operative procedures or for corrosion tests which comply to international regulations, which allow us to study and evaluate the resistance to corrosion of the products we produce. This particular attention to corrosion effects brought to the development of highly innovative products.
An example is NI1811 and NI1811-RH alloy lines which, thanks to the use of Rh as alloy element, have an extremely low release rate complying to UNI EN 1811:2011 european regulations. Silver alloys have been at the core of an important projects which led to the creation of SILNOVA line silver alloys. With accelerated corrosion tests is possible to measure the behavior of plating depositions or passivating solutions applied on different substrates.
In LEGOR LAB we are able to carry out the determination of color coordinates according to CIELab system. It's of the paramount importance to us to be able to define univocally the color of a specific alloy or a particular plating deposition.

In LEGOR LAB we are able to carry out the determination of color coordinates according to CIELab system. It's of the paramount importance to us to be able to define univocally the color of a specific alloy or a particular plating deposition.
To do so we use a benchtop spectrophotometer equipped with "openings" with a diameter between 6 and 21 mm. To determine the color of a metallic alloy a sample of the right size must be produced and then polished through automatic polishing machine in order to achieve a mirror surface. Thanks to the automatic polishing we are sure that the finishing of the materials is continuous, repeatable and reproducible. For the plating deposits we use specific metallic plaques which are covered with the deposition under study. The colorimeter is paramount for the characterization of the materials and for the research and development activities we carry out. For example, we are able to measure the effect a variation of the composition has on the color or determine the variation of the color of a material after the specific corrosion test that material has undergone.

LEGOR LAB technicians are in charge of day-to-day metallographic preparation of samples for the following execution of analysis and trials for the characterization of metallic and non metallic materials.
We are able to perform high precision cutting without inducing plastic deformation on the material and therefore compromising its structure. After sectioning the sample, it's possible to hot incorporate it in conductive resins which allow the observation of the samples through SEM also at high magnifications.
After the incorporation, we move to the automatic metallographic preparation thanks to automatic polishers which allow us to control the working parameters such as the applied load, the plate and head rotation speed, the lubricant used, the working time etc. The total repeatability and reproducibility of the preparation guarantees the maximum reproducibility of the results obtained from the sample analysis. On these samples some analysis will be carried out such as: hardness trials, color coordinates measures, crystalline grain measure, surface and internal quality evaluation, residual porosity level on samples obtained from PLM working, the study of the material phases through optical microscope or SEM.
